Our day to day life is largely impacted by more and more data. In business and industry, we are using data in more ways than ever before.

If there are errors in our measurement system, we will be making decisions based on incorrect data. We could be making incorrect decisions or producing non-conforming parts. A properly planned and executed Measurement System Analysis (MSA) can help build a strong foundation for any data-based decision-making process.

From this video onward, we are going to learn this concept of MSA and its practical application in real life with examples. To start with, this video is about an explanation of all the basic terms used in MSA, so that the later part will be easy for understanding.

I have explained all basic concepts from MSA in this video like Accuracy, Precision, bias, linearity, stability, repeatability and reproducibility, Number of distinct categories (NDC), Sources of Process variation, Part to part variation, Variation due to Measurement system and components of reproducibility i.e. by operator and operator by part.

I have explained these concepts with a neat diagram which will be very easy to understand the concept. I am sure, you will like it.

Lecture 1 :MSA (PART-2) Type 1 Gage Study with Practical Example_1.mp4

After learning of all MSA concepts, from this video onwards, we are going to learn all MSA tools one by one. In this video, we are going to learn the 1st MSA tool i.e. “Type 1 Gage Study” with a practical example.

The Type 1 Gage Study is typically performed before a Gage R&R Study, to identify any deficiencies in the measurement system. In a Type 1 Gage Study, measurements of one part measured by one operator are analyzed to estimate the level of variation in the gage itself i.e. the gage repeatability and the accuracy of the measurements.

In this video, we are going to learn the 2nd MSA tool i.e. “Gage Run Chart” with a practical example.

The Gage Run Chart is used to assess differences in measurements between different operators and different parts. Using a gage run chart, we can do the following:

• Plot the data from a crossed gage R&R study to see how measurements vary between operators and parts. (we will see this is in detail in the coming videos)

• Identify sources of variation in your measurement system.

• Examine operator consistency in measurements over time.

Lecture 1 :MSA_PART 4 Gage Linearity and Bias Study with Practical Example.mp4

This video is about the 3rd tool in Measurement System Analysis i.e. ‘Gage Linearity and Bias Study’ with a practical example.

Gage linearity and bias study are conducted by choosing parts or samples that cover the operating range of the gage. For each part, multiple measurements are made, and the average of the measurements is compared with the master part measurement.

Gage linearity and bias study uses the average of measurements and the master measurement to assess bias and linearity.

We are going to learn the next important tool in Measurement System Analysis after Gage R&R Study (Crossed), and it is Gage R&R Study (Nested).

Select Gage R&R Study (Nested) when each part is measured by only one operator, such as in destructive testing. In destructive testing, the measured characteristic is different after the measurement process than it was at the beginning. Crash testing is an example of destructive testing.

The Gage R&R Study (Expanded) is used to assess the variation in your measurement system when one or more of the following conditions exist:

· You have more than two factors, for example, operator, gage, and part.

· You want to declare some factors as fixed factors.

· You have both crossed and nested factors.

· You have an unbalanced design.
